During my pregnancies, I had a lot of people coming up to me and rubbing my belly. Some people just love to touch a pregnant mommy’s tummy. Sometimes, those pregnancy mommies love it too. Other mommies, not so much. A lady I worked with said she used to freak out on anyone who touched her tummy without asking. If they did ask, she would say “no”.

I didn’t like it when strangers felt my tummy, but friends and family were always welcome. How about you?

Wednesday's Q – Would you pierce your baby's ears?

I remember hearing from a few different moms that their babies had spent the day with a friend or close relative only to come back with pierced ears. In all cases, the mom was not aware that this was going to happen. Also in all cases, the mom was furious.

It reminds me of the episode in “Friends” where Rachel’s sister took her daughter and got her ears pierced and Rachel was extremely upset.

I know that if someone took my daughter for the day and brought her home with pierced ears, I would flip out.

When I saw this question brought up in the September issue of Today’s Parent magazine, I thought it would be fun to find out from Baby Tips readers what they thought of it as well.

Wednesday's Q – Are You Done Having Babies?

I get asked this question a lot. I’m a single mom with two kids so people are always curious if I’m ever going to have more babies. At first my answer was a resounding “YES” and after about a year, I changed it to “NO”. Now, I’m a definite “YES” again and I think it will stay that way until I pop another one out!

Wednesday's Q – Did Your Water Break?

My son the day after he was born

My daughter was born naturally and even though I was in labor for 24 hours, my water never broke on its own. The resident tried to break my water with what looked like a giant crochet hook. It was one of the strangest feelings I’ve ever felt. It felt like I had a giant water balloon in my stomach and someone was trying to pop it.

After trying for a good 5 minutes or more to break my water, the resident was unsuccessful so she had another doctor try. He was also unsuccessful but I think it did start leaking a little bit so it never actually “broke”.

I had an emergency cesarean section with my son shortly after I was induced so I didn’t get to yell, “My water just broke!” then either. Maybe next time.

What about you? Did your water ceremoniously break in a cab or a restaurant like in the movies or were you robbed of that gushing feeling like me?
