Coping with Hyperemesis Gravidarum

While morning sickness can occur in up to 80 percent of all pregnant women, Hyperemesis Gravidarium only occurs in around 2 percent of women. Your doctor will diagnose you with HG if you have severe nausea and vomiting that leads to dehydration, weight loss and malnutrition.

You need to see your doctor if you are vomiting more than 3 or 4 times a day. There are medications you can take, and in some cases you may need to be hospitalized and put on fluids. Hyperemesis Gravidarium can lead to serious complications for you and your baby if untreated.

Women who suffer from HG need excellent care from their physician and support from their families. Everyday tasks become very difficult or even impossible and you will need the help of your partner and friends and family to overcome it. I know from first-hand experience what HG can do to a family. My marriage suffered and I became very depressed. Thankfully, there are places you can go for extra support.
